Give Hope on #GivingTuesday

Posted on November 20, 2012 by secondharvest

Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is part of the inaugural #GivingTuesday, a nationwide movement that harnesses the power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

The retail sector has benefited for years from coordinating national shopping days around the holidays. Over a third of Americans will spend almost $800 this season on gifts, and the average American shopper will spend $107 on themselves! (statistics courtesy of Mashable) This year, #GivingTuesday will let giving have its "opening day" on November 27, 2012 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – and the day after the famed “Black Friday and “Cyber Monday” shopping days.

#GivingTuesday is a great opportunity to join the Feeding Hope Challenge and help provide 10 million meals to those in need by December 31. Use the money you will save from taking advantage of holiday sales to make a difference in the lives of the 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children struggling with hunger in Tennessee. For every dollar donated, Second Harvest can provide four meals to hungry children, families and seniors.
