Speak Out Against Hunger

Each September, the Feeding America network of more than 200 food banks across the country unite to mobilize the public to take action in the fight against hunger. Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is asking you to speak out against hunger because the nearly 400,000 Middle Tennesseans struggling with hunger often do so in silence.

Hunger affects communities all across our country - rural, urban, and suburban. Right here in Middle Tennessee, 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children don't know where their next meal will come from. By lending your voice, you can help raise awareness of hunger issues facing our community.

September 6 is national Go Orange Day where individuals nationwide will wear orange - the symbolic color of hunger. You can also Go Orange digitally by uploading one our Facebook cover photos to your profile. Local businesses can also get involved by "Lighting Up Orange" on September 6 or throughout the month.

This year we are excited to announce Volunteer Fridays - a new volunteer initiative sponsored by Walmart. Register today for a Volunteer Friday you'll work a morning volunteer shift and then enjoy a free lunch from our First Harvest Cafe and leave with a Hunger Action Month t-shirt.

Use our interactive "30 Ways in 30 Days" calendar to find your opportunity to take action and lend your voice in September and pledge to speak out against hunger today!
