Traditions of Giving

Holiday traditions of giving make this season special because those of you who give are making our community – or nation, or world – a better place by giving a gift that truly does keep giving. At Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, we encourage traditions of giving because we know that without generous gifts from our donors, someone will not be fed this holiday season. It’s hard to imagine that neighbors in our community don’t have enough to eat, but it is a harsh reality in Middle Tennessee.

Start a new tradition of giving this holiday season with inspiration from some of these unique traditions of giving.

The eighth annual Ms. Cheap Penny Drive for Second Harvest is taking place now through the end of January! Pitch in your change–or dollars. Together we have raised more than $300,000, providing 1,200,000 meals for our neighbors in need over the last seven years.

Check out Ms. Cheap’s column here to learn more about the history of the drive and creative ways to get involved.

HCA’s Clinical Services Group hosted the 2016 “Chili Election” in early November to raise much-needed funds for Second Harvest. Sixteen candidates ran a very competitive race encouraging colleagues to vote for their chili in the “Chili Election.” The event raised more than $6,000, which will provide more than 24,000 meals!

2boaBank of America Give a Meal

Each year, Bank of America hosts “Give a Meal” in partnership with Feeding America to support food banks all across the country, including Second Harvest. For every $1 you donate, Bank of America will match your donation with $2* more. In addition to giving money, Bank of America employees also donated their time to volunteer at the food bank on #GivingTuesday.

We hope you’ll join us this holiday season with a giving tradition of your own! Happy Holidays!
