Volunteer Opportunity Spotlight: Farm to Families

At Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, we are inspired by the resurgence of small farmers in Middle & West Tennessee. However, many people in poverty have no way of accessing the nutritious food being grown on farms around them. Through our Farm to Families program, we’re working to connect local farmers, community volunteers and those struggling with hunger to create a more food-secure environment for all.

How to get involved

Join us out on the farm! Farm to Families volunteers will help care for and harvest many different crops to be donated to Second Harvest and local partner agencies to help feed those in need. We partner with eight local farms. Each farm’s volunteer needs vary per day but may include weeding, mulching, composting, harvesting and gleaning.

No prior experience is necessary! As a volunteer, we will provide you with the skills and knowledge of how to raise food as a community.

  • Get a first-hand look at where our food comes from
  • Build your understanding of valuable local food resources
  • Reduce food waste
  • Ensure access to nutritious food to all
  • Provide much needed assistance to small farmers
