Food and Support for Every Neighbor

At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program

For children who may not have access to meals and snacks after school hours, this program ensures they receive the nutritious food they need. Through this program and our Kids Cafe, 114,551 meals and snacks were provided last year*.

BackPack Program

Our BackPack Program makes sure children have access to nutritious food when they will not be eating at school. Last year*, 6,893 children received a bag of easy-to-prepare food through our BackPack Program to take home every weekend and during holidays.

Kids Cafe

Kids Cafe provides free meals, snacks, and nutrition education to children facing hunger through a variety of community programs during the school year and summer. Through Kids Cafe and our At-Risk Afterschool Program, 114,551 meals and snacks were provided last year*.

School Food Pantry

School-based pantries have a permanent residence within a school, where food is distributed to children and their families as-needed.

Summer Food Service Program

Without access to school breakfast and lunch, many children experience higher food insecurity in the summer. This program makes sure they receive nutritious meals.

Neighbor Care Pantries

For neighbors who need food urgently, neighbor care pantries are available at 6 sites around Davidson County, where you can receive 2-3 days of staple food items based on the number of people in your household.

Food Rescue

We receive donations of surplus food from individuals, manufacturers, distributors, and farmers to minimize waste and pass on nutritious food to our community.

We also partner with 350 grocery stores to receive, sort and distribute quality items that would otherwise end up in landfills.

Our Farm to Families program allows us to purchase fresh, nutritious foods from local growers and producers for our neighbors to thrive.

Innovative Meal Solutions

Dietician-, Food Science-, and Culinary-led cooking and manufacturing process focused on getting the right customized nutrition to neighbors in need. Our Innovative Meal Solutions capabilities include dietician designed and chef curated tray-pack meals (frozen), bulk precooked protein ingredients targeted to congregant feeding, and shelf-life extension leveraging excess bulk fresh produce to create shelf-stable and nutritionally balanced tomato sauce. The meals and ingredients produced can target specific dietary health needs such as low sodium, diabetic support, and nutritionally balanced portions meeting specific needs of our neighbors.

Mobile Pantries

Second Harvest Mobile Pantries go beyond our food bank locations to provide large-scale one-time food distributions at scheduled locations and times.

SNAP Outreach

We can help you apply for SNAP, understand the benefits, and even complete pre-screening through our SNAP outreach program at Neighborhood Care Pantries, Mobile Pantry distributions and Partner Agency locations.

Mobile Market

Our Mobile Market visits communities most impacted by food insecurity, making access to nutritious food more equitable for those who lack reliable transportation or live in food deserts.

Project Preserve

Project Preserve is our social enterprise that provides fully assembled custom disaster relief and feeding program boxes,

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

The USDA-funded CSFP Program supports low-income seniors in Davidson County with a monthly box of nutritious food.

Senior Nutrition

The Senior Nutrition Program provides low-income senior adults with nutritious, easy-to-prepare, shelf-stable food resources, distributed weekly or monthly.

Nutrition Outreach

Led by our Registered Dietitian and dietetic interns, this program offers poverty-conscious nutrition education, recipes, and cooking classes. We also help train Partner Agencies to prioritize nutrient dense foods for neighbors in their community.

Healthcare

Our food pharmacies at select federally qualified health clinics address the intersection between hunger and health, providing nourishment and other wraparound services to neighbors who struggle with food insecurity.
