What if the key to ending hunger was right in our backyards?
Global Agriculture Day celebrates the vital role farming plays in our lives. Second Harvest knows agriculture can empower people.
That’s why we launched Project Grow. This 18-acre agriculture initiative connects our neighbors with home-grown food and, now, education. Project Grow has been so successful, we’ve introduced a new educational series.
Alongside the UT Extension Office, we are equipping our neighbors with new skills. Our monthly classes cover topics like:

- Cooking demonstrations to create nutritious, budget-friendly meals
- Food preservation techniques to extend the life of fresh produce
- Gardening basics to grow food at home
- Cooking with seasonal ingredients to maximize nutrition and affordability
- Chronic disease education to promote long-term health
Each class features a hands-on activity, such as building a container garden. They reinforce a neighbor-centric approach.
Project Grow fosters community and self-sufficiency. Neighbor feedback guided topic selection, ensuring the lessons were useful to those we serve.

Agriculture transforms lives. Project Grow provides tools for our neighbors to build healthier futures. Learning how to grow food reduces food insecurity and improves overall well-being.
On this Global Agriculture Day, we recognize the importance of sustainable solutions to hunger.
With initiatives like Project Grow, we’re not just feeding people today—we’re helping them feed for a lifetime.
