Second Harvest Food Bank Wins Award for Sustainable Practices

Second Harvest Food Bank recently brought home the Piedmont Natural Gas Sustainable Practices Award at the Center for Nonprofit Management’s Salute to Excellence Awards! We were chosen for this award based on our Green Bean Project in which we rescue and distribute fresh green beans through our partner Hughes Farms. This project is a significant new food recovery initiative that goes to the source and requires a new way of approaching produce recovery.

We were finalists along with some of Nashville’s most distinguished nonprofits, including Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville and Soles4Souls.

Special thanks to Chris Hughes, from Hughes Farms and Troy Edwards, President at Sysco Nashville. We’re so proud of our team and community partners for the incredible work they do to help the many children, families, and seniors struggling with hunger in Middle Tennessee.
